ANKARA – Speaking before the fourth meeting of the Parliament’s National Solidarity, Fraternity and Democracy Commission Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmus said increasing social consent is “the most important duty”.

Parliament's Commission has convened for the fourth time. Numan Kurtulmuş made a statement before the first session of the meeting. Kurtulmuş noted that Turkey has entered a historical period and with the establishment of the commission, the work has been intensified under the roof of the Parliament.

'WE WILL FULFIL OUR HISTORICAL MISSION'

Kurtulmuş stated that there was no bargaining in the process. Kurtulmuş said: “One of our most important duties is to increase social consent, to develop social sensitivity and to ensure that the support of different segments of our society is increased, especially in this process of brotherhood. For this purpose, this comprehensive commission was formed in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey with the participation of all political parties – except for one party – and it continues on its way by taking all its decisions unanimously until now. We are in a difficult process. We have to be in a period of diligent work. We will discuss all our issues here, we talked about how to do it and what to do in that first internal session. Now we have determined who we will listen to. We are starting with the relatives and veterans of our martyrs. We will endeavour to listen to all of the institutional structures that can contribute to this process as much as possible, and at the end, we will show the Turkish public opinion how the process can be concluded in a healthy way. I hope that we will fulfil this historical mission in the most successful way.”

Kurtulmuş added: “One of the issues we should pay the most attention to in this process is that there are those who want peace and brotherhood in Turkey until doomsday, as well as those who endeavour to prevent it. It is known that there will be those inside and outside who endeavour to make this process fail and those who try to poison this process. Therefore, we need to tighten our ranks and continue on our way successfully without any missing documents in this regard.”

‘WITHOUT DEMOCRACY BROTHERHOOD IS UNDER THE THREAT’

Mahinur Ozdemir Göktaş, Minister of Family and Social Services, then said: “Without brotherhood, democracy cannot be on solid foundations. And without democracy, solidarity and brotherhood are under threat. Free-terror Turkey is the vision of building a strong Turkey. We produce social policies that touch 86 million citizens. Today, I will share with you the work carried out by our ministry for the families of martyrs and veterans.”

THOSE TO BE HEARD IN THE COMMITTEE

The commission meeting continues closed to the press. Names from the Turkish War Disabled Veterans’ Association, Martyrs' Widows and Orphans' Association, Turkish Veterans and Martyrs' Families Foundation, Turkish Martyrs' Relatives and Veterans Solidarity Foundation, and Law Enforcement Organisation Duty Disabled and Martyrs' Families Foundation will be heard.

In the second session of the meeting, people who started a protest in front of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Amed Provincial Organisation building with the guidance of Suleyman Soylu, the then Minister of Interior, will be heard.
